FatTire,

Welcome to the site. I am relatively new as well. Great pics....please keep posting them.

I've fished saltwater my whole life but this past year was the first that I began flyfishing (primarily CT and RI waters). Needless to say I'm hooked (pun intended); and have been tying flies all winter.

What waters do you typically fish? Always looking for more flyfishing fanatics to cast a line. Are you aware of any groups that get together and tie flys or fish in CT?

tight lines,

nick

nas,

Thanks for your reply. I live in North Carolina. I typically fish the NC coast and around Virginia and Maryland. Stripers in the Susquahanna flats, Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, Virginia Beach and the Roanoke river. Redfish around Morehead City and Bald Head Island. Albies at Harkers and off of Atlantic Beach. I plan on hitting the artificial wrecks this spring and summer, which can produce some great action on the fly, Spanish, Kings, Jacks,Bonito and hopefully some cobia. Lots of opps when the weather is right. I do not know anyone from CT or RI. I have a good buddy whom lives and fishes out of Cape Cod. I used to live in NY near the CT border. I used to fish the Housatonic River often. Great river! Loved the white fly hatch. I'm sure there are many flyfishers in your area. When I moved down here I thought I was the only flyfisherman in the state. But, I have found a good number of guys whom are stristly hardcore flyfisherman like myself. Check out some of these forums. I thought there was a group in CT.....something like the CT flyfishers?? Do a google search, I'm sure you will find something. If you are ever down this way give me a shout. Seth

yo -- welcome to the site .... that is a sweet albie ... would love to come down to harkers and catch a couple killer days during the fall migration of albies .. i hear harkers outrageously good when the fish are there .... i like to fly fish for albies north of you in rhode island and marthas vineyard .. they are defintately top on my list for fish on the fly ... especially from shore ... something about chasing the little tunies on foot is just so fun for me ... are there many options in NC for the shore fly fisherman? of course, i like chasing them with boat too .. and do that often .. but i prefer foot for all fish if possible ... thanks .. and welcome to fliesandfins.com

Jeremy-
There are opportunities for Albies from the shore, but its very it and miss. No doubt you are better off in a boat, where you can go out and find them much easier. We do a trip every year around the first to second week of November. We stay at a really nice place right on the beach. Very cheap too. Ironically, we fished out of my boat last year, but were catching Albies right in front of the place we stayed, five feet off of the beach. A good buddy of mine came down this past season with his video equipment. He makes flyfishing films for a living, and I believe he got some pretty sweet footage. Hes in the process of finishing some other films now, but should have some great albie footage by the end of spring.I'll pass that along when hes done. Let me know if you are interested in a trip down to NC. We'll see what we can do. We have plenty of room at the beach cottage. I'm interested in a RI trip. Whens the best time? I would like to bring my boat up for a long weekend of fishing. Let me know. Seth

rhode island .. for what? stripers or albies? .... stripers = spring .. like late may and early june ... lots of big fish on big bait on the flats ... albies === well .. the bonito show up first .. but that's a fickle game .. if you like chasing hard tales .. i would say august for bluefin tuna and bonito ... sept and oct for albies ...

also .. rhode island is only a short run from montauk ... so if you got a decent sized boat ... there is alot of great water within a short drive ...

i have a house in rhode island and go down there alot during the spring/summer/fall ... so, shoot me a pm when you think you might be going .. and i can give you a solid report and based on what you are targeting ... of course, as you know, ... fall can be off the hook too ... catch the migration in rhode island before it gets down to you .... double your pleasure Smile .... and come oct .. i am an albie addict ... so, i could help you out in ri waters .. and then you return the favor in NC? just a thought ... i have always wanted to fly fish NC during the migration .. i heard last year wasn't so hot for the albies????? is that true? or, i should say .. it didn't last too long.. that's what i heard anyway??? maybe that was not the case

Jeremy... All of the above. If it will hit a fly, I"ll chase it. I like seeing new waters. I prefer chasing anything that will pull. How far is RI from Baltimore MD. I've got a 20ft JB flat bottom skiff. Its great if the weather is. 3-4 footers will beat you up. Would love to come up for a long weekend if the fishings right. As far as last year albie fishing. I caught fish everytime I went out. I was never skunked when I know most were. But, I never had a "great" day. Meaning, finding a huge bait ball, sitting on it and catching one after another. The fish this year were very spread out. Spread out and were up and down, up and down. I also heard from a lot of people that they did just O.K. You never know. Last year we also had a bunch of southern blows which kills that area. I guess thats why they call it fishing. Let me know if you want to come down. We'll make something happen. Keep in touch.Later, Seth
