Has anyone here fished in saltwater in Castine, Maine, specifically near the Maritime Academy? I want to go there for college, and was wondering if there was any chance of saltwater fishing in May or September/October.

Hey Rhody,
I'll take a stab at this for you. I fish mostly south of Castine in Saco bay, but you will be at the mouth of the Penobscot bay, and there are definately stripers in there all the way upriver to Bangor. Generally schoolie stripers show up down my way around mid-May, so figure a few weeks after that in Castine. I am going to hazard a guess if you look for places where the tide creates moving water or at least a pinch-point, you'll find fish.
I'm guessing that September would be a better bet than October, since most stripers are solidly on their way south by late October. Hit it right late season though and you could find yourself attached to some very good fish.
I also saw your post for freshwater.... buy a Maine Gazetteer from Delorme and follow the blue lines marking rivers and streams, and scope out the lakes and ponds.... if you're not too picky, you won't have enough time to get to half of the good spots in a season.
Good luck and remember, you gotta have the fly in the water to catch fish

Thank you, Caynenfisher. We found a few streams just by driving around somewhat aimlessly. I'm not going to school there for 2 more years, but I'll tell my friend up there so he can look this SAugust and September of some bass.
