Hey all, as we are in the holiday season now, I just thought it would be cool to see what fly fishing related gifts people have recived in the past or what they might be giving or wanting this christmas/holiday. Personally I hope to get a fat brown trout on christmas morning, when I am taking my little cousin out with his new fly rod and a few flies I tied up for him.

Hey,

This is a great post ... and if anyone out there has a wife or family that keeps asking for an email or a little list of what they can get me (as they know I love fly fishing) ... maybe this will help us all .. and I will just send my wife and family to this post ... So, here are just some things I could use ... I will categorize by "Stocking Stuffer" "Medium Gift" "Big Gift"

Stocking Stuffer: Split shot, tippet and leader material, snippers, wader repair stuff, socks, laces for my wading boots, egg fly tying hooks, streamer fly tying hooks, saltwater fly tying hooks, white thread for fly tying, black thread for fly tying, thermometer, waterproof fly box, sunscreen

Medium Gift ($50 or less): another sling pack so i have 1 for fresh and 1 for saltwater, dry bag for gear, fly fishing shirt for saltwater, fly fishing shirt for steelheading (cold weather), flip flops, nice saltwater fly patterns that are not cheap such as a nice featherwing fly or pollock fly etc...

Big Gift: ($50 or more): Floating Fly line for trout, Sinking Fly Line For Trout, Intermediate Fly Line for salt, Floating fly line for salt, sinking fly line for salt, flats wading shoes, teva style shoes for wet wading, 12 weight fly rod Very Happy , reel for 12 weight fly rod Very Happy , spare spools for any of my existing reels, travel bag/case for multiple fly rods, travel bag for fly fishing gear and clothes, gear bag to keep all my stuff in all the time not wouldn't be used for air travel or anything like that .. just a gear bag to hold all my stuff reels, etc..

That is quite a wish list ... hopefully it helps others think of ideas and think "oh yah, that's a good idea ... i could use that" ... and i am sure, if others participate .. there is stuff that you will think of that i don't and i will think "oh right, i could use that" ... anyway .. that's all i can think of for now .. will be curious to hear (not so much just for christmas either) what other fly fisherman both fresh and saltwater kind of see as their staples of what they need and also what some realistic "wishes" might be ...

My entire Christmas, as usual will circle around gear of some sort.
1. New tying desk- I'm tired of the messes and lack of organization. My wife's uncle hand makes them and from what he tells me, "I'll get a good deal". Here is his site http://www.dighs.com/servlet/StoreFront. He has a few interesting items on there. He introduced me to fishing with silk lines last year. Fun but frustrating.

2. New vice. The jaws on my current vice are worn to grooves. Makes those size 22-30 midge patterns a bitch to tie.

3. Fly lines- 300 grain sinker and a silk line.

4. The new Petzl fishing head lamp. Don't know if it really has "fly fishing" value but it seems cool.

5. Trout Bum diaries Kiwi and Trout Grass (this is a pretty cool movie, a little dry but very interesting)

6. Wading pants. Need some warm pants for under the waders. I found this out this past weekend.

7. Various magazine subscription renewals. They always seem to run out at Christmas.

8. Hooks, feathers, and various other materials.

9. Orvis Vom Hofe bamboo rod/ reel combo (the flea version)- Completely economical at $8500.
