Fly Fishing - A sweet Spot (Gorge Pool Outardes river Quebec)

Anyone in maine been fishing for sea-runs - it has been warm and i am thinking about taking a few casts. let me know.

I was wondering if you use other names than searun browns.
Here in the Netherlands and in the rest of Europe they are known as
seatrout. I want to go fishing for them in Denmark sometime spring.
Never caught one so it is high on my to do list.

Do they have the same color in Maine like the Danish specimen below ?

hey marcel - that is a SWEET looking sea run. everyone here seems to think they are all like that, but in reality our sea runs are stocked fish that tend to average the same size as their freshwater counterparts.

they are fun to fish for and live in the brakish waters - but in my experiences i think the biggest one i have caught is no more that 16 inches.

I know that Joe Macomber caught a really big one many years back in the Kennebec river that was similiar to the one in your picture, but that is very rare (in my personal experience).

the coolest thing that i like about fishing for the sea runs - is that i can fish for them in very extreme temperatures and conditions. last March - i caught a sea run on a DRY fly. there were ice burgs floating down the river and it was amazing to see fish feeding on top.

HOW FAR IS THAT PLACE WHERE THAT GUY CAUGHT THE SEA RUN FROM YOU??? THOSE LOOK LIKE NICE SEA RUNS.

to answer your questions

- the fish i have caught are much browner (not as bright as that)

- i am not sure if they call them sea trout? maybe someone else knows? we do have sea trout but they are more like the sea trout in florida and are only caught in the seas.

do they get many like that over on that side of the pond?

The location where the fish was taken will be probably a 6 hours drive. By then you are in country nr. 3 (Netherlands - Germany - Denmark).
I watch the Danish flyfishing forums and they do catch them on a regular basis. The Danes do some serious stocking of seatrout so there is always a chance to get one if you fish the sea or the rivers. I have no clue what the average sizes are but from the pictures I am seeing pretty large.

Our plans are to visit the place at the end of April. Our chief of the flyfishingclub has frequented Denmark a lot and he does not catch a lot of those fish so I guess it is difficult. We went on a four day trip there in 2003 and only my two friends managed to catch two rather small seatrout then. I am still seatroutless but that will change.

those are nice fish - very silver for sea run browns and big - GO GET EM! 6 hours might be worth it.
