Looking at possibly making a trip to the Portland, Maine area in the next few weeks for vacation. Wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on where to fish - I would probably have about a day to fish, so it would have to be close by. Also looking for any fly / hatch insight, as this will be my first trip.

Thanks for your help.

Tight lines.

What are you looking to fish for near Portland? And what do you consider close by?
There are a few places locally (within 45 minutes) where you can fish for salmon/trout in rivers...they can be fickle fisheries if water levels and temps aren't good. It depends on when you'll be in the area. Mid sept?

On the upside if you have car there are many more options within a 2-3hr drive which makes for an easy day trip if you leave early and come home late.

Another option is to fish the salt. There are tons of good places to fish for Stripers and Blues within minutes of Portland.

Hope this helps

Send me a PM if you want more specific info.
