Fly Fishing - Sunglasses

Anybody been? Any information you could share?
I'd like to do some fish stalking on foot and our trip is tentative. sched for next March.

We are taking an all inclusive sportfishing package, but, I'd love to score a rooster on my own. Wink

So, plenty of time to chime in. Suggestions welcome. :

James never fished the pacific side of costa rica. I did some research down there in college (all on the sea life) and can tell you that there are alot of species to catch. The water drops off quite rapidly so a boat might be your best shot at finding fish. I was on a sailboat for a while down there and saw alot of marlin breaching, sharks while snorkeling, and actually traded a local fisherman some rum for a 6' dorado. So there are plenty of fish out there but a boat is probably your best shot.

On land I spent most of my time in mal pais ( on the peninsula)

Not sure if it even applies, but same country so may help. I just returned from sportfishing (fly fishing only) trip to Mexico .. we did mostly offshore bluewater fly fishing for Marlin, Dorado, Tuna etc... I did prowl some flats now and then when we went in for fuel etc.. and the places I was it seemed that some fish could be caught such as snook, corvina some sort of bonefish type stuff and some other inshore/flats type fish .. but, it was not nearly as effective or fun as what could be done from a boat .. even a ponga (which is what mexican fisherman use, basically a small skiff with big bow) got you in the game .. big time .. where as, if you were on land .. your choices were limited... I did have a big take though when i was on the sea of cortez side up near loreto mexico somewhere .. so, maybe i just didn't spend enough time on foot .. but, in terms of true sportfish ... a boat, i think, would be a huge advantage ... but fish can be caught on foot and were on my trip ... hope it helps, even though it's a bit vague in respect to your question ... and the fact that i don't know a thing about how where i was compares to costa rica .. and, of course, i know that roosters can be caught on foot in other regions of mexico .. maybe that is the case in costa rica .. maybe not .... hope you at least got something of value out of this information .. if nothing else .. i can say with some confidence, that a boat (even a little skiff/ponga) that you could rent or get someone to take you out on .. would be a huge advantage...

ps. with that said, i was in mexico on a cruise one time .. and when the cruise ship docked for the day .. rather than going on the 700 fly fishing trip through the cruise ship ... i went to the outskirts of town and found a bunch of mexican fisherman sitting on their pongas and drinking beer .... i bartered and traded with them 5 TALL BEERS for taking me out in a ponga .. we bombed around some rips .. and crushed huge barracuda ... a word of caution though, be careful .. as you probably know .. certain places and regions of mexico are more conducive to this in terms of your safety than others .. meaning, this was some sort of small island where i could sense that the danger of getting mugged or whatever was limited ... if i were in a diffferent part of mexico, where crime was a known issue . i might not have been so care-free .. so, just like in the USA or when traveling to any other country .. how careful you need to be, is more or less dependant on where you are ... your passport will have a link to the us embassy and links to various countries with known "danger" spots .. a good idea would be to investigate the "safety rating" of where you plan on doing stuff like i did , before actually doing it .... like all else though ..let common sense be your guide .. good luck!
