New to the forum, and thanks for help in advance!

3 of us are heading out to basalt for a ten day adventure. we're from virginia, and this is our first trip out to there. We could use any info on the best places to camp, fish and eat, and place to go while out there. any info would be great. thanks

Hey,

welcome to fliesandfins.com - I have never fished there .. but I hear it is an amazing river .. My buddy Joey lives out there and fishes it often, catches some really nice fish too .. He usually comes on the site every day ... I'm sure he will be able to help you out a bit ... good luck, should be a great trip.

The pan is a tailwater that holds some picky trout. Pheasant Tails and BWOs work well along with a ton of different midges. your flies are going to be small # 18-24 and you tippet light 6x-7x. Mysis shrimp are a good fly as well, best used in the first 1/4 mile from the dam. There are some big fish in there and with this years high water I bet alot of them have been pushed down from the toilet bowl. Dont overlook the roaring fork which is right there as well. There are some killer hatchs right at dusk and the fishing is not as techy. I have stayed at the aspenalt right iin basalt for like 120.00/night and the green drake as well. There are some cabins up the frying pan road but they might be a little pricey. The riverside grill is right on the river next to the fly shop and it is a pretty good time. My buddy luke and I closed it one night........made for a long following day. Shoot me a PM before you come out. I am an 1.5 from there.
