Howdy!
I have been stocking up on information on my upcoming trip to Sarasota, Florida lately, and all i've heard is how well a chartuse and white clouser works. My question is.....How do you fish one? Say I'm fishing blind with one, whats the retrive you would use? Fast, slow, letting it drift, what? I will probaly be fishing blind most of the time, so I need to know the retrieve, or chances are i'm not catcing any fish. Thanks. Tight lines

Fisherboy,
Here would be my suggestions if you have never fished the water down in Sarasota.
1. FIRST AND FOREMOST - Find out where the fish are!!!!!
2. Find a local bait shop/tackle shop/fly shop
3. Start small - Go in *MAKE SURE YOU BUY SOMETHING* and when checking out say to the guy, "Hey, I am down here from Maine and just looking to catch a few fish - where would my best chances to catch anything.
note: Don't get too involved with him/her about how you will be fishing - your just asking questions and LISTENING. I know alot of guys that go to new areas and then start telling the flyshop owners about how much they fish and all the fish they caught and what the fishing is like where they are from...and then they leave...with no more information than they had when they walked in. So - PLAY DUMB! Don't try to impress the guy with anything - let him talk and you listen.
4. Once you find the fish - I don't think it will matter much how you retrieve the clouser. But here is a good rule of thumb.
- If you are think into the fish they are feeding and you can see them - cast and strip fast with short 4 inch strips. If you are blind casting and trying to find a fish cast - let the fly sink a bit and retrieve slower with the same 5 inch strips.
5. If your not catching anything at a spot - MOVE - Find somewhere else - Fish where other people (Locals) are fishing until you find out what's going on and what kind of fish they are catching. Bridges always seem to a good spot to find fish and usually below any bridge there is room to fly cast along the banks.
PS - search google for "sarasota where to fly fish....sarasota where to fish...sarasota fishing reports....and so on.
jeremy gives always consistently good advice. Fisherboy. Hey, I thought you were coming to Naples too. If you come down this way, give me a shout 239-793-4558. My guiding season down here is over now and I have more time. Like I told you, you will get a reduced rate....so here's a deal... $50 for up to 4 hrs. Clam Pass jeremy will tell you it's well worth it.
