A Jack I caught the other day at Clam Pass. The water's warming and the fish are starting to move.
This is my friend, Al E. Gator who always comes to say hi when I arrive at the Rt.41 Trail Tarpon haunts.
The other day, Todd Lapitito and I went out in his Hewes Redfisher exploring the Intercoastal Waterway for Tarpon and Snook. We saw and fished over the rolling (but not feeding) Tarpon and had only one hit...no hookup.
We moved in to the back waters and caught a small Snook.
Then after avoiding the large gas-guzzling monster boats in the channel, we made our way over to the back side of Kewayden Island for some beach snook fishing.
All and All ...not a big fish tale day, but hey, we're here doin' our best to have fun. |

Fished with Mark at Keewaydin (outside) from the boat.
Looks like the beach drops off pretty steep down there.
Productive fishing area ? Must be a nice area for predators
to nail fish to the beach. |

The Snook are actually IN the breaking waves as the waves crash on shore ....5 foot cast is all.
You know the fly to use!
In the photo, the beach looks like there's a drop-off but in fact it's fairly shallow there.
See you later Marcel!

Howdy!
Hey Marshall, glad your hooking up!! Question, Whitch is better, a sparsly tied clouser or a fat clouser? Also, what is your favorate size for a clouser, so far I have done most of my chartuse and whites on a #1, witch is pretty big I think. Thanks a whole lot! Tight lines

austin,
I like clousers on the sparse side...after all, they're among the heavier flies and those that I want to sink fast. Too much bucktail on them and you defeat the purpose,IMHO.
ANY size clouser is OK as long as you feel it's imitative of the area baitfish. The large ones are a bit nasty to cast. (DUCK!) Someitmes I'll use a large clouser on a heavier, shorter tippet, on a sink tip or full sink line. That's a get-down combination.
here's a tip; make sure you tie the eyes 1/3 back from the hook eye. That way the fly will dip and dive the way it should.

Howdy!
Hey Marsh, thanks. I will continue to tie them in 1's and some more in 2's. I have some things called Shminnows, witch have white marabou tails and white estaz bodies, with black eyes witch I plan to use for snook(I read an article about the fly, catches them all the time( the biggest he got was a 31 incher!!) and Jeremy says that Jacks also love white. I have a few shrimp for under the lights too. Thanks again and wish me luck-only 1 more week!! Tight lines
