Ok, I think it's fair to say that most of us would fly fish 24/7 if that were humanly possible. The fact is, we have to have some down time. So, late in the evening when the house is quiet, what do you reach for? A book? a magazine?

For me, it's books. Mostly about fly fishing, but some are outdoor sports in general. Books by Robert Traver (Trout Madness), Robert Ruark, stories by Hemingway like Big Two-Hearted River. Trout by Ray Bergman. These were the authors that lit the fire in me when I was young.

I don't seem to reach for the Magizines too much, most of them are just sales brochures for gear, gear, and more gear.

How about you?

I have been diggin' on Trout of the World by James Prosek. Every night I grab it and read a couple more of the fantastic adventures he has been on around the entire globe, in search of trout. I live vicariously through his words.

One of the best fishing books I've ever read--and it's not about fly fishing--is "Striper: A Story of Fish and Man" by John Cole.

Also, I don't even shad fish, but "Founding Fish" by John McPhee is a phenomenal read.

I read lots of magazines and books that are fly fishing related. My magazine subscriptions include Fly Rod and Reel, Fly Tyer, Northwest fly fisher and my favorite Fish Alaska Magazine.

I have read so many books but i would say my 3 alltime favorite are Advanced fly fishing by lefty kreh, A river runs through it and Breakfast at Trouts place(A published fishing journal of a well known alaskan fishing writer). Like kreh if i am not reading late at night you can find me at the vice or on the water.
