Today I fished in the Port of Rotterdam with our flyfishingclub.
The goal was to fish for shad in one of the major waterways of the port.

Main channel "Nieuwe waterweg"

Members from the local flyfishngclub provided us with all neccesary info to make this a succsesfull day.
They outfished us big time but luckily almost everybody caught a shad.

The only fish of the day but my best shad (Alosa fallax) till date.

The shad where very active during the period untill high tide, then the rain came and all action died down.
The weather guys had once again fooled us with their report, the hard wind made it difficult to get some distance with my 7-weight.

Heavy shipping traffic, we had to watch of for the wakes since they could flush you off the dams.

Despite the less than ideal circumstances I did manage one good shad and missed one strike.
The locals where catching one after another, our best was 6 shad for one guy.
A date for a rematch has been set, next time the 8-weight and a fast sinking line will hopefully make some difference.

Marcel
Great post, yes I was scouting for a good place to fish that weekend, and it seems like all of Europe was under a rain storm, but glad you and your friends manage to get some shads. By the way I want to thank you again for the information booklet and video you sent on Denmark, you and PeterDK got me all the information I needed to make my Danish trip for Seatrout a sucessful one, even though the hornhecht might be a nuisance to some fishermen, I got addicted to them as they were alot of fun to catch on light tackles.

One of the locals who was spinning had caught one seabass.
We concentrated only on the shad thus fished with small flies.

With some luck I might be in that area again in two weeks time.
Then I will take my striper outfit with me to seek those elusive
seasbass.
Would also like to catch a Marckerel one of these days so I hope
the weather stays reasonable when I get back to Rotterdam.

Oostvoorne has two closed seasons right now, the summertime closure is during the months of July and August.
In season it is possible to combine a trip to the salt with fishing for trout in that brackish lake.

In my opinion Oostvoorne is a great place for the people living in western part of the Netherlands.
There is no doubt that the fishing is exiciting since the trout in that brackish lake grow big and are very strong.

... but since I am located in the eastern of the Netherlands part close to the German border I rather spend time chasing trout in the German hillcountry than in a place that borders a large harbor filled with chemical plants and refineries.
