| There are a lot of guys on here either very familiar with florida and the keys or that live down there. I am sure they can give you some good info. You can also search the site for florida keys or florida fishing and you will find a lot of great information. |

Hey. As long as you are not going during heavy spring break period - it is usually pretty easy to find some cheap digs to stay at. Granted you won't be on Mallory Square in Key West .. but, you can get close. I go down there and don't even book my rooms, because I am usually not exactly sure where I will be fishing. But, its often the case that I end up at some place in Islamorada for like 70 bucks per night. I have also stayed at "The Rainbow Bend Lodge" on Grassy Key. Now, this place is a bit more expensive than some of the "dives" on the side of the road that i stay at -- but, the cool thing with this place is you get access to their 13 foot skiffs .. Which can get you to some of the outter flats. Just google it and you will find it. Bottom line is, don't think "Key West" .. think "Florida Keys" and your choices for staying will be many and your fishing options will be many. We often drive back and forth to fish different flats at different tides from Islamorada to Key West on almost a daily basis. As far as fishing goes, focus on the state parks .. There are lots of them on different keys and I have had some great days of fly fishing on many of the state park flats ... Good luck. Hope this helps.
PS. If you are going in the winter - don't disregard the upper keys from Key Largo to Islamorada. As strange as it may seem, during the winter months the bonefish tend to be higher as opposed to lower in the keys. Good luck. |
