|
|
I am going to the Charleston, Hilton Head region of SC and need some info on fishing places for Reds or any game fish spots in the area. Being a former US Marine I am going to try Parris Island as I know there is some big reds there. Would really appreciate any other wading spots there may be. I'm told they should be running up estuarys this time of year.
Thanks for the help

I live in South Carolina and in the winter time they get into massive schools (like hundreds) on the flats and you will also see a couple smaller schools and some trout. The only problem is that they are very slow with this cold weather so remeber to fish slow.
Good Luck |

My plans have changed and My airline tickets are for March 10 - 17th. Can you get to flats on foot or do you need a boat, I was told the latter is true. There must be wading spots and thats what I'm looking for or estuarys that can be fished without sinking in the mud.
Thanks

| You aren't able to wade the winter flats because the mud is so soft and the flats are usually deep in the marshes, far from roads. March is a transition time for the redfish the schools are beginning to break up and they travel in smaller groups. You can stalk redfish by foot usually starting in late April early May and there are some great places you can drive up to and see fish tailing. This occurs during the flood tides which reds will get up in the grass and root for fiddlers, it is definitely my favorite way to catch reds. And they tail all through summer and into fall. March can be tough depending on the weather, but you would probably need a boat to be effective. There are some great fly guides in Charleston. I hope this helps. |

Thanks for the advise. Iguess I'll have to try and figure some things out. I doubt I'll be able to get a guide but would certainly be glad to if I am able.
Thanks

hey! I saw ur post and it caught my eye right away. I dont know how much help I can be but ill tell you what i know. First off when you get here you could drop by the Charleston Angler over on West Ashley. I think the manager is a Citadel grad and he was really really cool. He guides all the time and said that when he was a cadet here at the del he would always take a cannoe out and paddle right behind the Joe (riverdogs baseball stadium). He said that its a hidden secret and that some of the best fishing is right between the stadium and the Citadel infirmary. There is a great flat back there but with the conditions now you cant wade back there at all and even in the warm weather you sink in the mud like crazy. I also have seen guides polling right behind the soccer feild and that too is a great spot. Me and my roomate are pretty much the only obsessed fly anglers here and we have hooked up with some fat boys back there. So my advice is hit up the area from behind the Joe all the way to the Citadel soccer feild.
sorry if my grammar and spelling suck... im a bis major haha
but any way i hope this can help
GOOD LUCK!

That is great info thanks and as to spelling, I attended coll. for 7 years and use spell correct constantly. Never could spell. I would like to meet and maybe fish with you guys if possible. I would be more than glad to take you to Parris Island with me and the Reds on the base are huge! and there are rocks and high ground from which you can fish. If your interested just let me know.
Thanks

| I can guide you to the flats where the red drum dwell, for I live on HHI and fly fish exclusively with catch & release adventures. |

| Ajax, are you a guide for hire? I will be in the Beaufort area mid April and I'm looking for a guide to show me some reds. |
