| I would like to know what the preference is out there. I prefer singles but not many rods out there have them. I feel they cast a little better and they cut down the amount of epoxy used, which would lower the weight slightly. Why don't more rods have them? |

The snakes are supposed to let a tangle through a little easier as the functional opening is bigger (you can see this when you look at them from an angle). And, as mentioned, the singles use less epoxy and are thus lighter and supposedly help with blank action, etc. When wrapping my own rods I have used singles whereas all of my bought rods are snakes. I think that the singles hang on connections a little more when you are using shooting heads but past that I haven't noticed a big difference.
