Is it too late in the to start fly fishing for trout? I know spring is the time to get out there. I live in Buffalo NY. Any info would be great!

Thanks

It's not too late - if the water temps aren't too high. I try not to fish above 72 deg water temp. The fish are going to eat, but their exurtion is going to build lactic acid levels, which can't be overcome in higher water temps - water holds less saturated oxygen at higher temps. They can't breathe! You basically kill the fish by catching it.
It also depends on the type of trout. Brown and rainbows are more able to survive higher water temps. Brook trout aren't. Somebody else can chime in about Cuttthroat.
When it warms - I fish for bass. They are a blast on the fly rod. Topwater action will make you giddy.

What are the water temps in the rivers around Buffalo? Seek out one of the many good fly shops in the area - they'll be able to point you in the right direction.
Hope this helps....

Try fishing some of your local ponds for Bass and Bluegill, its great! I use a three or four wt rod and some surface poppers or sliders. Water is warmer now they may be a little slower to strike. All and all great fun. Very Happy
