I have a Sage RPL6100. For those of you old enough, gray enough and with memory still in tact, this is a 10', 6 weight 2 piece fly rod that is probably one of the best casting rods (IMHO) ever made on planet earth. It's been out of production for a decade (at least). Regardless, I bought it about 14 years ago and it was my go to rod for everything, particularly for float tubing. Phenominal.
The tip section broke, making it a 9' rod. I called Sage and they said "send it in with a check for $50". I figured I would get the old rod back and a $30 check (postage taken out) saying "sorry, but we can't help you". But... today, via FEDEX (no additional charge), my RPL6100 returned with an entirely new upper section. It had to have been hand built. It is new and perfect. Not close, but perfect. No additional charges. I am in shock. A perfect fit and I am in awe.
These days it is tough to find a company that will stand behind their product and support their customer base. Sage does that 110%. I cannot believe how wonderful a job they did. They have earned my business for life. Just amazing.
That's awesome to hear. I am a HUGE fan of Sage products, and their customer service. Thankfully, I have only had to test it once.
I always get nervous when fishing with an older rod that I've grown really attached two, because I've heard of nightmare storeis where someone sends in a rod, then gets back a new "comparable" model. and when they call to get their old rod back, it's been junked and all those memories are gone.
Thanks for the reply! Yes, the "comparible" replacements seem to never be "comparible". The older RPL's were stiff in their heyday but are probably now considered "moderately neutral". I have tried/used newer rods that seem to focus on being very stiff or very flexible. But that "in between" area is a big void and that is where the RPL plays well. If I float tube for 10 hours straight with a 10 foot rod, yes, I feel it but not much more than any other rod. Thankfully, I don't need to worry about "comparible" after the fine job Sage did on my old warrior.
BTW When I wanted to fix my broken Loomis IMX few months ago...they turned me to HUNGARY where I was told I can buy some shimano!*?=! clothes and stuff...
Too bad...I used to have very good experience with Loomis warranty dep. and extremely fast service.
Now, (like probably most of the European (former) Loomis rod owners...?)
