Yesterday I once again ruined some piece of equipent, my own fault btw.
I discovered that my mobile phone was not waterproof.
Fishing is an expensive hobby especially when I am outdoors.
So I already lost two polarizing filters for my SLR.
I lost one net somewhere in the outback.
I lost my suglasses, they are most likely part of the riverbed now.
I slipped and broke a landingnet (I am heavy)
I slipped and dislocated a lens for the SLR camera
Dunked my SLR in the water.
Did the waterproof test with a handheld radio.
Broke two rods in Florida at the same location with the same
fish species. Broke one rod while fishing at a dock.
Broke the rod of the guide and my own spinning rod while in Florida.
All bad things to happen. The only postive thing is that all these things where lost or destroyed on duty and I am still in one piece...

marcel - good topic...would be interesting to hear all the things people have lost and how they lost them. i am sure there are some good stories out there.
..i have a wall in my "river room" that has all sorts of broken/coroded stuff hanging on it..i think there are 4 cameras that took the nose dive and are fried. 4 reels that are all rusted and corroded. boots with no soles...
i think the best story i got about something lost is this...
my friend pete-d and i were fly fishing the salmon river tributaries. pete bought 200 bucks worth of flies for the long weekend. woolies, egg patterns, stones, cadis pupa, leaches...you name it..it got it...pete was scheduled to head back home and i was staying for a few more days...so the next couple days ... i hit all of our hot spots...at one of the spots...i looked down and said "SWEET" ... it was a fly box full of flies...and ALL the flies that I like....I thought.."How strange..this guy likes to fish exactly the same patterns that I do. Wow! I must be doing somehting right!" Anyway...a few more steelhead trips came and went along with a few more months. Eventually Pete and I crossed paths again on the steelhead waters...We were at a fly shop and he started buying all sorts of flies again. I said, "I thought you had a tons of steelhead flies?" He said.."I did, but I lost my box on my last trip. I think I dropped it at XYZ stream"....I laughed and told him the story. Pete didn't think it was funny. He said, "so whereare my flies?"...I said, "dude, all those flies are long gone..stuck to various trees, logs, rocks..." - He was pissed. I think he still may be. Sorry Pete...I swear I had no idea those were your flies...
I am very good at the breaking things part. The finding things part is less developed with me although I can remember one occasion...
Way back when before I knew I had distant relatives living in Bonita Springs I always went on holiday to the greater Fort Lauderdale area.
I was staying in a place called Hollywood where fishing was lousy, empty beach etc. So one day I skipped fishing and did some snorkelling instead.
In the empty sand desert underwater a piece of paper was moving about.
Closer inspection revealed that it was a 20 dollar bill. I undertook a thorough for the other bills and the suitcase but could find only that one.
After my discovery I ended my snorkeling tour and headed down to Miami 's Bayside to have a decent Italian meal at Lombardi's.
It would be nice to hear what other people have found and lost while they where fishing.
