|
|
Hey - I wish I had the same question as Pete - "Looking for information - I am going to Bimini Bahamas" - However Joey and I are going to a little colder venue. We are going Steelhead fishing this weekend. Put it this way - we won't be on the carribean flats with shorts on. More like Bundled up, fighting the great lake winds and drifting our flies through slush. OH I LOVE IT THOUGH - all it takes is for one Big Chrome Steelhead to take my fly and I am in heaven.
OK SO MY QUESTION - Does anybody know if there is something you can put on your guides of the rod to help ice from building up on them?? Most days will be above 32 degrees but one day is looking like 28 degrees. |

| Wd-40 works! Use a Q-tip to place product on the metal part of your guide only. WD-40 will loosen the glue on your rod blank if left on too long.Wipe off the excess and reapply as needed all day. Good luck and get lot's of pictures... |

| Hey Joe-m, I have seen Jeremy's line and WD-40 may not help that cause much. Although, I do not doubt it works. No kidding though-new line is slick and it helps a lot because it sheds more water before it hits the guides. Also, I have heard vasoline. But like WD-40 it has petrolum in it and that may deteoriate the line as well. They make other deicing lubricants that I have had moderate success with. They wear off fast. The other thing you can do is swing flies and avoid taking up line on every cast . Hope that helps. |

If my guides were to freeze up, I'd offer them a nip or two off my flask and tell them not to whine or they get no tip!
For real, I don't know. By now you'd think someone would have invented a $900. rod with batteries in the handle and a heat coil that goes in the cork and to each guide. Uh...gotta go. |
