We just held our first 2006 session of our annual pikefishing tournement.
Today the weather changed dramatically, a steady easterly wind is about to transport Russian cold weather to us.
So the lines froze stuck in the guides and even the streamers froze up.
Still 24 members showed up and despite the adverse weatherconditions two pike where caught, the largest was 76cm.
I had no single hit along the stretch I patrolled, with this cold weather
fish are just not that active.
I did see for the first time a couple of black swans in the river, these
creatures are native to Australia and New Zealand.
I guess the two I have seen where escapees.
When fishing with so many people along our local streams it is standard that not many fish are caught.
Still the turnout today was large and that was most likely due to our excellent "after fishing" catering when we all gather for a hot drink and snack at the riverbank.
Today the menue consisted of a sandwich with sausage and sauerkraut and a beverage of choice, it was tasty...
So for the next week or so we will be in the deep freeze,
an excellent time to stock up on flies. |
