Hailing from Burlington, VT, and it's balmy out! Trout season's about a month away, and most of the year 'round waters are still iced up. Winter trips to Oswego got flooded, but we tried. Winter trips to Pulaski did better! A few weekends ago I tied crabs and bonefish flies all weekend for a few buddies who just got back from S. Andros. The patterns I tied all worked and they did great. I got back about 1/2 of what I tied, including one velco crab with a straightened Size 4 hook! (Dissapointed at first, I felt better when I heard it was a 5-6 foot shark on 30 class conventional gear and 75lb steel bite that straightened it!! The fly otherwise was still in good shape after one of the wives "dappled it" to get the shark hovering around the boat!!) Spent this past weekend cleaning and reconditioning lines, tying new caddis pupae patterns, and adding "extras" to the tyting bench. I knew it was bad when I cranked out a dozen hog fry gummy minnows late Sunday for an August trip to Bermuda for Tuna!! As if it wasn't already bad, my first incoming call this morning was from the marina to schedule the boat launch on the first day of operation! "Yes, early"! It's coming, and Daylight Savings just made it an hour sooner!!

"Salt" fever is what is making my skin itch right now. I was able to fish a lot this winter in the mountains, but now that open season is about to start in a couple of months, it's time to go chase some reds at the coast. I get sick of seeing crowded streams and people taking out fish out by the dozens so when June hits, it's time to add a little bit of driving time and see sand instead of boulders.
