So, I got some pictures from joe-m and joey. Here is the scoop. They fished for a second day out of a drift boat on the Yakima River. They reported wonderful scenery and crystal clear water. The bigger fish (steelhead) were usually found in the deeper waters (15 ft.). The water was so crystal clear that, even at 15 ft. of water, they could see the trout come from the bottom all the way to the top and take the dry flies. No Steelhead were landed, although joe-m reported having a nice salmon on. Several cutthroats and rainbows in the 12 – 15 inch category. Flyfishing had to be done with barbless hooks and it was a two fly limit. The true catch of the day was made by joey. He was nymphing out of the drift boat, and felt a huge hit. It was not a fish, not a stick, not the bottom! It was a brand spakning new top of the line Sage 5 weight rod with a nice reel attached. So, it was a successful day in more than one. Now they have jumped on a ship and they are making their way from Seattle To Juneau Alaska. They will travel through the inside passage and see some of the most magnificent sights left on earth. Untouched forests, ancient glaciers, killer whales, bears, Salmon… So, all in all, Washington State was a good prelude to the Alaskan fly fishing. They should be fishing tomorrow. Stay tuned.
