Alaska: Leave It The Way You Found It

With so many people coming to visit the Last Frontier one may wonder how long it will be a frontier. My answer is forever as long as people respect the land and treat it with respect. For that reason I urge all visitors to leave Alaska not only the way you found it but even better. Little things such as picking up trash or being careful fueling around boats can make a big difference not only to the health of the land but the enjoyment of future generations. Nobody wants to come fish a remote river with scattered beer cans in the brush or oil slicks in the water. Another thing most fly fisherman are conscious of is good catch and release habits which can be especially vital for species such as rainbows, steelhead, char and grayling. Always remember to pinch your barbs, minimize fish handling and wet your hands before handling fish. Remember to treat all wildlife with respect whether it be a national symbol like the great bald eagle or the willow ptarmigan state bird. If you are adventuring to Alaska on a do it yourself trip that involves camping, keep your camp clean and pack all trash out with you. If your using four wheelers stay on the trails and don’t drive over fragile tundra or shallow spawning beds. The list could go on and on but it’s important that after Alaska gives you the trip of the lifetime that you do your part to ensure many more trips of a lifetime for future generations.
