As we pull into the parking lot there were several cars but not that many where it’s packed. As I’m going to the river I’m tying a fly to my leader, trying to be prepared. The light off my head and the bouncing from walking didn’t make that an easy task. Ouch! I yelled as the hook slipped into my finger. Well I’m sure we all did that many times and it won’t be the last time for me. There it was!.. The sound of the water ripping down the river and the fog just hovering above it. WooooooHoooooo!.. Now this is life. I’m just about across the river and ready to go while my friends are still up at the truck. I usually get over excited and can’t wait for those who take there time. There are fish to catch.. I have a saying: “Those that are slow, are last in the hole”. I Well it’s light enough to fish so I start drifting a black stone fly. As I’m drifting I can see my friends making there way down. I hear one go .. Figures he is fishing already.: ) It was about the 4th drift and WHAMM!. Fish ON! Ooops! Rock ON! I was so ready and excited that rock was such a good feeling, I couldn’t resist yelling. While I yelled I had a few look over at me and with a dumb look and a funny voice I say, “I thaught it was a fish.” A guy across from me smiles and starts laughing. Well the time went by and I’m looking up and I can see my friend has one hooked. As I started to backtrack out of the water a bit because it looked like he was coming down, he lost it. So I walk back out into the water and see a nice riff just a bit below where I was fishing.. Just about ready to cast and I hear Fish on and once again it was another friend up above me. Well at this point I’m thinking maybe I should move up. I figured I’ll take a few casts here and then move up towards a shoot where they were fishing. First cast I thought this was perfect. A great drift but came up empty. Another cast and just a perfect float and once again empty. By this point I’m getting frustrated and I hear again Fish ON and it’s them up in the shoot just nailing fish. Well I strip out a bit of line and whip a cast out. As I’m watching it go down river about half way through the drift BANG!!!.. Yahooo! Fish ON! It felt like a Mack truck pulling my drag.. zzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZ I hear it going.. Now with the fish on I have no idea where, nor do I care where I’m walking. I start going down river fighting the fish. Kaa-Plunk I go down into waist high water. Whoaaaaaaa as my face prob. turned as red as an apple. I’m not loosing this fish , I’m thinking. Well after about 10 mins of fighting it starts to fade out a bit and I can finally gain some ground on him. I have about 12ft of line and I can see the spots on it.. HOLY %^$& I yell. Get down here. Get down here! As I’m playing the fish out one of my friends is making his way down and finally gets to me. Get this baby for me! Well I start to work my stuff. He is just a bit below me and the fish comes right into him like a steelhead taking that sweet egg down. We get the fish and were both looking without saying anything. That’s a Brown, he says. That’s a Big Brown! I just about ran to him and knocked him over. Hurry, hurry. Get my camera outta my back. We need pic’s! Snap Snap and I always wanted to have one mounted so I figured I would. As I’m making my way out of the water I had guys coming up and just shaking my hand and telling me that was better then watching a movie on TV.
