I spent the morning fly fishing with Jeremy. When we reached don’t ask/don’t tell river, everything looked promising. No trout rising but we knew they were present. Nobody but us. We take a few casts at the first hole and nothing. So Jeremy lets out one of his many tips to me, “always start upriver.” We make our way to a nice pool. I fish below an obstruction and Jeremy fishes on it. Jeremy’s line goes tight, and by the bend of the rod it looked like a good fish. He walks off the obstruction and into the trees, playing the fish carefully to the shore. We thought it was a giant Brookie! So he gets the “brookie” to shore only to find out that a huge bass is attached to it!Now me and Jeremy aren’t really bass people. All of the sudden the dropper is moving around in the water! A brookie was on the dropper fly. We just couldn’t stop laughing. I have never seen someone catch 2 fish before. We released the bass and then we worked together to get some AWSOME underwater trout footage. We couldn’t have asked for a more coorapitive fish, he put himself in the perfect angles and the light was perfect. So now I want to catch a trout. We both walk on top of the obstruction and cast into the hole. Fish after fish after fish. All were bass. Then I got the perfect drift. I start stripping in the 2 flys and WHAM! Fish on! A big fish too. Now this was the hard part, we knew it was a big brookie and it was running downstream fast. I walk off the obstruction and try to get around the trees without loosing the fish, cuz he was a monster. A giant! Meanwhile the fish is making my reel scream and heading off to the bushes. I run into the water and the fish breaks off, what a shame. I was too far out in the river and should have put my rod down lower. We make a game plan on how we are gonna land the next monster that we hooked. I caught one brookie that we didn’t have to chase downstream after and than I hooked another BIG brookie that took me downriver. I did everything right this time and he broke me off. Next time.
Jeremy, I had alot of fun today and thanks again. Thank you thank you thank you!
