When water is high and dirty and the wading is risky, the wind is howling I look for or know some sheltered streams that have sufficient cover from the wind and you don’t have to battle high water and current. Someplace where a hatch doesn’t disapear into the wind and what you tie on isn’t 5 miles down stream before you cast. High wind meens hooked clothes and assorted gear. tangled line, poor casting and not many fish for your investment of time. These are the times you think about streams that are protected from the direct wind and settle for smaller but more fish. I found such a spot and caught some beatiful brookies and small Browns on my 4wt. Bamboo. This rod and some Sun, combined with some sollitude provided a perfect afternoon of fishing.
