Austin And Caleb VideoHi Speed Only

I am not sure if I taught the kids today or they taught me. Yeah, I point out a few trout tricks but they teach me something more valuable. They teach me that life is short and we can never go back. When fly fishing with Austin and Caleb, I can’t help but be reminded of my youth. I can’t help but remember being exactly like them. Running from one trout hole to the next, always thinking about the next fish and being amazed with the simple things. Those are very fond memories for me. I fished from sun up til sun down and that still wasn’t enough. Geez! now that I am writing this, I am thinking, “Jeremy you still do that now!” Anyway, what is important is that we never lose the passion and light heartedness that Caleb and Austin have. They did not have a care in the world today. They were at one with the river. They fly fished like living legends (of course – they’re from Maine!) The were thrilled with every fish that took their flies. That is how it should be. Too often, I think some of us older, more seasoned fly fishermen get a little side tracked. In the end, it ain’t rocket science. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t matter who caught more and all we are really doing is trying to trick fish with flies. We are doing exactly what many men have done before us and exactly what many men will do after we are gone. All we can really do is enjoy ourselves and transfer our passion and our tricks of the trade to the younger generations. When was the last time you saw some young kids out on the river fly fishing? We see them once and awhile but not as much as I would like. Mostly, its a bunch of us old fly addicts. So, the young men like Caleb and Austin should be apprectiated. They are the future of fly fishing. They will carry the torch. Keep our rivers clean and respect the fish we cherish. They will be the ones who continue to spend time on the rivers. Without guys like Caleb and Austin our rivers would have a very lonely future. I have said this before and I will say it again. If Caleb and Austin are the future of fly fishing, our rivers will be in good hands. Thanks for a great day Austin and Caleb. I don’t know who had more fun, you guys or me.
