Spring Striper VideoHi Speed Only

Ahhhhh. I feel like a new man. I always do after a fly fishing trip to Rhode Island. Ever since I was born, I have spent the summers in Rhode Island. I chased the bluefish and striped bass from sun up until sundown. Every day, all day. The waters of Southern Rhode Island just feel like home. I have litterally spent thousands and thousand of hours on the Rhode Island waters, fishing for fun and commercial fishing for money on longliners, scallopers and draggers. The years have brought me here and there and to some of the most beautiful places in the world. However, nothing really compares to my home waters. It is cool to think that I still stand on the same rock that I stood on when I was 7 years old. I have changed but nothing else has. The tide still comes in and out, the same way it did then and the same way it will after I am gone. I had a great time fly fishing with myself, my wife and dan-l this weekend. I visited all my stomping grounds on foot and then dan-l took me out on his boat. I really appreciated that, especially since he had a late night of partying the night before. We lucked out though. As soon as Dan showed up with his boat, the rain stopped. The sun came out and we were immediately into the fish. The fish were on the smaller side and that is to be expected for the first run of spring fish. We didn’t care though. We chased them around and after a long winter a small fish felt just as good as a big fish. Well, not really, but you get the point. Black clousers seemed to do the trick and the wind was blowing pretty good, so 350 grain shooting head line worked for me. As soon as we stopped the boat at our first spot, the Stripers were rising all around us. Dan casted his fly and he was hooked up in an instant. We went back and forth for an hour or so and caught a bunch of fish. Then the sun came out and things died down. So, we called it quits and I brought my wife out to dinner for some lobster and steamers. Of course, I had a master plan. The lobster joint just happened to be right next to one of my favorite spots. So, I convinced her to take a few casts with me as the sun went down over the ocean. We caught a few fish, had a nice dinner and got a good night sleep. Soon enough, the Stripers will be in Maine and I won’t have to travel so far to get my salt water fly fishing fix. But, I probably still will because that’s what I like to do.
