Juneau Alaska Video:Hi-Speed Only

Joey and I set out in Juneau Alaska 8-24 to the Salmon Stream in downtown Juneau. After a long cruise from Seattle we finally arrived, a short stop at the Juneau fly shop for some local direction and flies we head out. 3 Miles out of town we arrive. Down the hill behind the cable company, walk the flat to the outer point. (Like walking the sand bars here in Maine only soft silt sand with kelp all around). We have our eye on silvers. The silvers cruise the beach in front of the streams for small bait. Fishing 8 and 9 wt rods with green and white and pink and white clousler 6 foot leaders and floating line. The idea was to hit the fish 3 to 4 feet under the surface.

I hooked one for a split second the sea lions got close and the fishing stopped. Lucky for us the river was full of Pinks or Humpies as they are called. The tide on the rise the fish were thick as a film on National Geographic. Joey and I casting in to the end pool next to the ocean and hook up as much as we wanted. I got a few humpies 1 half dead king and boom my 9 wt snapped.

Pissed off I called a cab hurried into town and had to buy another rod. What the hell I’m in Alaska with my son we both need rods right!! Back to the stream we fished until the ship horn sounded and hurried back to the ship. Alaska is awesome but if you want time to fish don’t take a cruise… to many people. Juneau there were 5 ships in at once that = aprox 15,000 people. We were lucky to get a cab!! Stay tuned for the next report. See ya fishing Joe-m
