Everglades Snook with Capt. Al Keller of Everglades Anglers your Orvis Connection .What a day of back water fishing. With the hope of jumping a Tarpon Al and I head to the 10,000 Island back country. 5 minute ride in the Hells Bay flats boat we reach some low water with Snook all over the flat!! Can’t pass this up, so Al rigged a 9 wt with a purple finger Mullet 40 lb shock tippet. Not long we see the Snook held up on the edge of the flats. First cast and boom 3 Snook explode away form my bad cast… False casting needs to be limited when fishing bright sunny days. Al instructed me, short precise casts. After spooking several more fish I got it! I put that fly next to a mangrove and Boom this time I was hooked up. Al quickly poled back away from the mangrove and I was free to battle my fish. Nice jumping head shaking fight. 27” fish heavy. We banged around this area for about an hour hooking 5 different Snook each head shaking and jumping a like a real trophy. Now we head to the Tarpon flats… My luck this year with Tarpon has ..well not been good. We reach the flat and the dam wind changes direction. Can’t see, can’t drift, you name it NO GD Tarpon ( all though they hooked 3 in morning) Oh well next time. We headed back to the Snook holes and caught several more. A great day of Snook fishing. If you get down to Naples book a Tarpon trip the worst you can do is catch Snook all day. Hope to see ya on the flats Joe-m
