I have spent the last 7 days in Cape Breton NS Canada , the Margaree Valley where the famed Margaree river flows from it’s spring fed head waters 40 miles or more into the sea . The beauty of this area is boundless , unfortunately for me the same was not true of the Atlantic Salmon. We arrived as the Black fish or Slinks, in the vernacular , were all but gone and did not see fresh fish until our last day of fishing! Timing is impotant with Atlantic Salmon. We saw a fresh fish caught on our last day and heard of 2 others , soooooo , they are coming in as I write this . The up side is the trout were plentifull in 2 or three rivers and I had 2 days to use my spay rod , 2 handed rod , to fish with. I have an 8 wt. 12 and 1/2 footer wich I think is perfect for positions on shore where there is no backcast . I bought this rod last year at fly fishing only in Fairfield . I find it to be a peaceful style of fishing and alows you many more choices in where you can fish .Between the trout , beautiful surroundings and my Spey rod , I had a good week . Next year I’ll go a week later .
