This past weekend we had heard rumors and whispers of big rainbow trout and brown trout staging at an inlet and around the river mouth of a reservoir a few valleys west of where we live. Last minute and on a whim, we decided to go check it out early the next morning. We tried our best to do some research and find out more about the fishery, but there seemed to be not much written about the certain area and inlet we were planning to fish. All we knew and the only information we were going on was that there were supposedly some big rainbow trout stacking up and getting ready to make there journey upstream. Also, the rainbows were to be followed by the big browns. After a big Friday night of vodka sodas, I somehow managed to get up at 5:50 in the morning and wake up the boys for our trip. After a windy drive we finally arrived at the reservoir. There were a bunch of Utah guys in fag bags at the mouth not catching fish. So, we rigged up and made our way to the mouth. Right of the bat a big fish whacked a brown streamer. After a brief battle the fish jumped and threw the hook. The fish looked to be 24 inches, maybe a bit more. Whatever the case, it was a nice sized trout. So, we quickly realized that the rumors were true and there were infact some nice fish in the area. To make a long story short, we had good day on the water and caught fish on all sorts of flies ranging from big streamers to small nymphs and everything in between. Together, we all ended up landing five big rainbows and two big browns. We were convinced that this was a spot we would come back to sooner than later. Stay tuned for more to come when we get back from next weekends trip. Game over.
