Windy day but warm and Sunny. Tomk, his Son and I went to Shawmut Dam on the Kennebec River. We fished the east side of the river but did not get far before we started catching Rainbows. Some were about 12 inches and were just stocked and some were 14″ plus wich the warden said had probably wintered over. We started with the usual group of emergers and nymphs and then went to Gaudy streamers. We let our lines wave in the tailing water just below the the rocks and they would slam our offerings. They hit hard and fast as if they were starved and we had a great time fighting them. Do to the down stream approach we each lost several large fish, much larger than we landed. We could see good sized fish running past us in the direction of the dam. I think had we set our hooks by swinging the rod to the side as opposed to straight up on that down stream drift we may have held the bigger fish, we will see tomorrow.
