1968-2003: Sebago Fly Shop
Bob Thorne owned and operated the Sebago Flyshop for 35 years. Due to ill health, he closed his doors the other day. Bob Thorne touched, taught and influenced many of people throughout his life time. Bob was a legend in his own time and he stood for everything that is good and pure in this world. I always felt at ease when going to the Sebago Fly Shop. Granted, it lacked the luster of a high end shop – but that was comforting. The floors were dirty and worn – some flies were half tied and pictures of fish and times gone turned yellow and dissintigrated as they hung on the wall. I did my business with Bob and bought my flies from Bob because he taught me much more than just flyfishing tactics. He taught me how to live. He taught me what is important in life and he taught me how to see through many of the shallow and empty promises of the modern world. Externally speaking, Bob did not have much, but it was more than enough to him. Internally speaking, Bob had stock piles of the kind of gold you can’t buy or sell. Bob had the kind of gold within his heart and soul that can only be earned through living a pure, honest and simple life. Bob Thorne’s Sebago Fly Shop is gone but will never be forgotten. Please watch this short video documentary. I put it together as a way to preserve Bob Thorne’s Sebago Flyshop and all it stood for. Thank you Bob – for all that you have given us.
