Blue Wing Olives, Cornuta, Hendricksons, all floating downstream like little sailboats. Pop, swirl, go the rainbows. Time for me to take off the bead head Flymph, time for jer to take off the big Wooly Bugger. Jeremy had one fish after another wading at the head of the boat launch rips and I did just peachy fishing a black Flymph early on, but when I saw the hatch starting and fish snapping bugs, I hoped Jer was switching over to the comparadun I gave him. Ken Allen scored big time as well today as did Jim Thibodeau, legendary river guide. Everyone at Shawmut today finally got the dry fly action we’ve all been waiting for. It can only get better now as the fish are more accustomed to rising and feeding on the surface. Soon, maybe this week, the Caddis will begin to bring up fish in the later afternoon, which means for those who can get to the river later, there’ll still be good, if not better fishing after 3 or 4 PM. Bring along the comparaduns in sizes 12 to 18 and remember to take along the Caddis too. The long wait is finally OVER!
