Wow, I don?t even know where to start with this fishing voyage. It was one of those days when everything falls into line and nothing matters except the next drift. My best friend Chris and I had this day planned for a while and through the half day of school could think of nothing else except dropping midges on 22-inch bows. Finally the last bell rang off to the river we were. Streamers or midges tuff decision, but we chose streamers to start out with. After a few hours of launching them into holes that produce fish of unknown size and not catching them we decided we might need to change flies a little bit. Chris decided to just swap his streamers, while I wanted to midge. ? You?re not going to catch anything on those things, heck you need a microscope to see them?, Chris teased me. I?ll bet you I can, ok if you do, I will wash our waders. Midges were not meant to be delicately laid unknowingly on the water with a 7wt so I used my 4wt , oh how sweet the feel of throwing a whisper soft mend, couldn?t be better. I am sure you all know that when the sun hits the water just right it makes a line that you cant see into. Well my indicator disappeared into that line and when it didn?t show itself, back went the rod and away went the indicator. Oh man, I thought he felt so big because I was using a 4wt, but when he did a tail dance he was big, one of the biggest I have ever caught. Slow down I said to myself, just take it gently, you have a size 22 zebra midge, 6x tippet, a 4wt, and a rainbow of a life time. JUST How I Like It! I would like to give the rainbow credit because I have never hooked into a rainbow landed or not that danced on top of the water as much as he did, I was in aw and ew at the same time. I was admiring his power saying aw then watching the line scream off the real saying ew! Well by this time Chris decided to make his way over. ? You got one?, he asked, ? no I hooked a deer?, I joked with him. Where?s your camera? In my pack. Ok this is a field note from experience; it is not easy to play a fish while you friend is digging through you pack. Finally got it, he says, now how does it work? So while playing this monster I had to be the operating manual for Chris. But he did a good job, got some good film, and 20 minutes later a great picture. You know something there is no better feeling in the world to me than to catch a fish that will remain with you forever and release it to be caught again at another time and place. Slaap!! What was that? While in the process of releasing the bow we had upset a local beaver and decided we should skadadal. So to tie the knot on a great day I didn?t have to wash waders!
