My success began last Friday when I found myself on my favorite Washington stream. The day began with two beautiful 14 inch cutthroat trout on a size 10 watermelon glow bug in the first hole I began fishing. It was a great battle on my 6′ 3 wt. fly rod. Friday I caught four cutthroat in the 10 to12 inch range. After Friday’s success I found myself on my favorite Washington stream yet again on Saturday. On this day, I was not alone on my favorite Washington stream. My dad decided to join me. The day began with many Cutththroat Trout in the 8 to 12 inch range. They were all caught on my 6′ 3 wt. fly rod and watermelon or peach glow bugs size 10. The highlight of the day was when my dad gets a solid hook set on what appeared to be a 15 to 16 inch fish but painfully it came unbuttoned after about a 5 second fight. The end result for the day was 8 Cutthroat trout in the 8 to 12 inch range. To sum it up, Washington creeks are stuffed full of beautiful Sea Run Cutthroat trout.
Anyone catching fish this time of year above the Mason Dixson line deserves a standing ovation and cuts to boot. Congratulation to you and your Dad for being in the game this time of year.
wow – beautiful looking trout … the colorings on the bottom pic seem to be much like many wild rainbows i have seen … might any of those sea run cuts be wild too?? also, just curious how far inland those trout are .. of course, not looking for you to mention your honey hole … just curious how far from the ocean these fish are found … great work .. beautiful fish.
Nice fish!! I lived in washington state for 6 years and the fishing can be phenomenal at times. I used to catch big trout in streams that looked more like storm drains that a lot of people overlooked. we used to hammer them and they seemed to gobble up everything we through at them. Congrats again.
Yes these are all wild fish. It seams that we dont have many hachery cutthroat. I caught them about 1 mile from salt water.clint
One of the only hatchery cutt streams are on the Cowlitz and they’re closing it down shortly.

No i haven’t. I mainly fish the olympic peninsula for steelhead.
