It is time for spring fishing in Utah. Longer spring days quickly melt late season snows. The midges and Baetis are in full bloom. Big Rainbows have taken up residence on shallow, gravelly riffles and began to spawn. The Browns are vigorously feeding on anything they can.

The rivers are finally emerging from their winter slumber. This is the time to get out and give the fish a look at your fly.

This weekend we did just that. Good friends always enhance the fishing experience. One of my buddies actually landed his first fish on a fly (another fine soul has succumbed to the disease). What a weekend for fishing, 60 degrees, sunny morning and afternoon clouds.

The question of weather to fish or ski was easily answered and it was a matter of what you wanted to catch fish on dries, nymphs, wet, midges, Baetis, Caddis, Sow Bug-it did not matter. The fish were on the feed. The best part for me is getting some good friends out on a new river and into fish. Take advantage while you can. Long cold winters make for hungry fish. And watch out for the redds!
